Karen Ortiz found her way to Traditional Chinese Medicine by way of an injury while working as a Respiratory Therapist. Her initial course of treatment allowed her to learn the benefits of acupuncture. This experience piqued her curiosity, and she decided to further explore the realm of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Through her studies and clinical training, Karen has recognized that Chinese medical theory coupled with her background in western medicine allows her to provide an expanded treatment model for her patients which results in more comprehensive care.
Karen received her Masters Degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine (M.S.T.O.M) at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York City. With more than a decade in practice, Karen has treated many ailments, but her main focus has been on fertility for men and women, treatment for cancer and HIV patients, mental and emotional disorders and pain management. She believes that Acupuncture can be used as a form of preventive care for well-being and as complementary care during the treatment of disease.
Karen is licensed to practice in New York and is Board Certified both in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbalist as a Dipl. of Oriental Medicine by the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine). She is also certified in Reiki healing technique.
During her spare time, Karen maintains a healthy lifestyle by practicing yoga and meditation.
